Renewals: what actually expires
The most common misunderstanding about Dragon Professional Group is that the licences expire. They do not. The licences are perpetual. What expires every twelve months is the Maintenance and Support (M&S) contract attached to them, and that is what entitles your organisation to version upgrades and vendor support. Older Nuance paperwork calls the same entitlement Maintenance and Upgrade Assurance (MUA).
If your M&S has already lapsed, it can often be reinstated by backdating the renewal rather than repurchasing licences outright. That is worth checking before a procurement team raises a new purchase order.
We have written this up in full, including what a renewal quote needs to contain, in Dragon Professional Group renewals in Australia: Maintenance and Support explained. To start a renewal, Voice Recognition Australia handles Dragon Professional Group renewal quotes and invoicing for Australian government agencies.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Dragon Professional Group and Dragon Professional 16?
Dragon Professional 16 is the single-user product. Dragon Professional Group is the volume-licensed edition of the same software, adding Nuance Management Centre for central administration, Active Directory integration, shared vocabularies, usage reporting and organisation-wide deployment. It is intended for five or more users.
Do Dragon Professional Group licences expire?
No. The licences themselves are perpetual. What renews annually is the Maintenance and Support (M&S) contract attached to them, which is what entitles your organisation to upgrades and vendor support.
What does Maintenance and Support cover?
M&S covers entitlement to version upgrades and vendor support for the term. In older Nuance documentation the same entitlement is called Maintenance and Upgrade Assurance (MUA). Without current M&S your existing installation keeps working, but you are not entitled to upgrades or support.
What happens if our Maintenance and Support has lapsed?
Lapsed M&S can often be reinstated by backdating the renewal rather than repurchasing licences outright, depending on how long it has been lapsed. It is worth asking before assuming you need to buy again.
Can Australian government agencies still renew Dragon Professional Group?
Yes. Voice Recognition Australia continues to process Dragon Professional Group Maintenance and Support renewals for federal, state and territory government agencies, with quotes and invoicing in the format procurement requires.
Is Dragon Professional Group the same as Dragon Professional Anywhere?
No. Dragon Professional Group is locally installed and centrally managed, and works offline once activated. Dragon Professional Anywhere is cloud-native and requires an internet connection.
